Partners for Rural Education in Africa (PREA) is committed to expanding access to quality education in underserved rural communities across Africa by equipping schools and students with essential resources, technology, and support. We strive to reduce educational inequality, improve student outcomes, and empower young people to reach their full potential by partnering with communities, government institutions, and other stakeholders to deliver sustainable, impactful solutions. Through innovation, collaboration, and a deep belief in education as a driver of development, PREA works to transform learning environments and create lasting opportunities for students in the most disadvantaged regions.
Enhancing Digital Learning
The Rural Digital Learning Initiative is our flagship program that equips rural schools with essential technology, including laptops, smart servers, and offline digital libraries. Through the establishment of computer labs, targeted device distribution, and comprehensive teacher training in digital instruction, the initiative enables schools to integrate technology effectively into everyday learning.
Professional Development for Teachers
This program strengthens teaching quality in rural schools through ongoing professional development, mentorship, and targeted training in STEM, digital literacy, and student-centered methods. A highlight of this program is an international teacher exchange, bringing American educators to co-teach with local teachers, fostering cross-cultural learning and skills sharing. By equipping teachers with practical tools, global perspectives, and continuous support, the initiative enhances classroom instruction and drives lasting improvements in student learning outcomes.
Student Scholarships & Supplies
The Student Scholarship & Supplies program is designed to reduce dropout rates and support vulnerable students in rural communities. It provides scholarships to cover essential costs such as tuition, uniforms, and examination fees, while also offering mentorship and academic counseling to help students stay on track. With a particular focus on supporting girls and other marginalized groups, the program addresses key barriers to education and helps ensure that more students remain in school and successfully complete their studies.
Health & Wellness Promotion
This initiative aims to prevent and reduce alcohol and substance use among students and young adults in rural communities by combining awareness campaigns, life skills workshops, and peer mentorship. It supports extra-curricular activities like sports, arts, debate, and tech clubs as positive alternatives, alongside counseling and support for at-risk youth. By involving older students, alumni, parents and community leaders, the program strengthens local support networks, helps the youth make informed choices and fosters a safer, healthier environment that supports learning, resilience, and personal development.
Infrastructure Development
Our Infrastructure Development program focuses on improving the physical and technological learning environments in rural schools to support effective teaching and learning. The initiative supports classroom renovation and expansion, provides solar electrification for off-grid schools, and pilots internet connectivity and innovation hubs to enhance access to modern educational tools. By creating safe, well-equipped, and future-ready learning spaces, the program enables both students and teachers to thrive and reach their full potential.
